What started as a site visit to the old city jail on Magazine Street has culminated in two Rover V novels, Thief on King Street and Message for the Devil. The 2nd and 3rd act of ToKS focused on the jail and its executioner; whereas, Message for the Devil focuses on John and Lavinia Fisher, imprisoned within the jail for one year before being executed.

We put a supernatural twist on their story, but with every word, the mystery of what happened to the Fishers and why became paramount. Although related, it wasn’t about them being highway robbers or murderous innkeepers. It was about a husband and wife who spent their last year in jail and died together.
