5-Stars, Good Read (July 17, 2020)

Magical Flying machines were a nice touch. In a world that magic exists in abundance, so much we would be possible.

5-Stars, Good read, but it’s the middle book in a trilogy, plan on getting all three. (January 14, 2019)

In all honesty I bought this because I’m a friend of one of the authors, so I might be a bit biased. But it’s actually a good book. The first one introduces the main characters too fast, but once past that, it’s absorbing reading, a really good job of world building. Somewhat reminiscent of some of David Eddings’ works, but not as padded.

I think they’ve got a real future at this, if this series is any indication. Well worth reading!

5-Stars, A suspenseful adventure (December 6, 2018)

As the novel opens, Jasper enters the domain of the white circle, a guild of mages, looking for a clue to the cure of the plague introduced in the first book of the Cayn trilogy, Son of Cayn. Xandor and his crew follow the caravan that holds the plague to the former human city of Cherigov, now held by orcs. Jasper must find the cure and Xandor must defeat the orcs or the world will be devastated by the wide release of the plague.

5-Stars, An excellent read (November 25, 2018)

With good editing and a superb storyline, every time I hear one of these books is going to come out, I just cant wait to read it.
This book continues the investigation into the mysterious plague and takes us to new cities as our adventurers attempt to keep war from breaking out.

4-Stars, I’m really enjoying this series. (November 24, 2018)

These new writers are growing in all kinds of great ways. The second book in this series is better than the first (and I liked that one a lot). I like how we are being allowed to unravel the threads to find out where the story is going. It was very frustrating when I reached the end of the book. *sigh* No amount of cajoling could get my computer to cough up more pages in the story. Some people have wondered about how well three authors can work on a single story? The answer is very well. I like the subtle shift in style, in different parts of the story. It’s nothing jarring or anything you can put your finger on. It’s a very natural thing as the POV shifts. Very nicely done. Now to wait for the next book.

A great second chapter to an exciting story. The character development and action are balanced to provide a riveting read. Can’t wait for the third installment.

5-Stars, Loved it (November 23, 2018)

Great story and continuation of the story from the last book. Things really heat up in book 2. Good vs evil at its best. Glad I got a chance to read this one.

5-Stars, Great second installment (November 23, 2018)

The second installment in the series picks up where it should. No crazy jumps like some authors do. More good development, well worth the read. I can’t wait to see what they do to wrap it all up in the third book.

5-Stars, Awesome Book (November 23, 2018)

Something we didn’t see enough of in the first book was magic, but it abounds this time around. Mages in the City of Cayn universe are apparently pretty badass. At one point a character who shall remain nameless pulls off a massive illusion that had me sitting there in awe. I’ve seen very few works where a single mage could have pulled something that big off. At another point that same character is called out for not being an archmage. Bro, if this is what a neophyte looks like, I don’t wanna have to face the master. That was some straight up ass-kickery. He does other really impressive stuff too, but that was what got me the most.

This is epic fantasy the way you’re supposed to do epic fantasy. Good guys, bad guys and the whole world (well… maybe) in the balance and only our plucky group of heroes can save the whole world for dying… We hope. They have to figure out how first though and right now, it’s not looking too good. We’re all sweating and rooting for them. And, at the end of the day, that’s what I love about the genre. This isn’t a story about variable morals and “everything is gray.” This is “someone is trying to kill all of us and we have to stop them.”

The benefits of success are sky high. The penalty for failing is unthinkable. The route to victory is not a straight one. It’s quite frankly a mess. There is no super-successful, gets it right every time person here. The one person I thought might turn into that guy is worse off than almost anyone else. This is a highly detailed, well planned-out story and the authors have pulled it off wonderfully.
